The F40 should be a celebration of forty years. Although the company's first super sports car was strongly influenced by the extreme machine philosophy of the 288 GTO, it was never intended for a life on the race track. However, this does not mean that he was lacking in the purpose: his sophisticated high-performance turbo chassis in combination with a first-class chassis gave him a great dynamic that came close to that of a racing car. As the famous Magazin Road & Track wrote: "The F40 is perhaps one of the most determined street cars ever built."

Just months before his death, a frail Enzo Ferrari announced from a podium in the Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, Italy, a car that would change the world. This car, the F40, signaled the end of an era, both for the Ferrari brand and for high -performance cars in general. It was a demanding, Spartan super sports car - "not particularly comfortable", even according to the company's own description. The F40 was expressly designed as the fastest, sharpest and most aggressive Ferrari street car ever. And it was as close as possible to a racing car that had sneaked out of the paddock and was somehow approved for road traffic.

In a way, the car had done exactly that. The roots of the F40 are in the 288 GTO Evoluzione, the rocket that Ferrari developed, to fight in the street race part of the legendary group B category of the races approved by the FIA. Rally accidents killed the entire category before the evoluzione could show his stuff, and left Ferrari the decision what to do with all the time, money and the remarkable technology that had flowed into the project. The answer came in the form of a German rival that was in the same predicament.

Porsche had also developed a group B monster and was forced to convert this project into a street car. Originally known as a group B concept, this car finally became a surprisingly fast and technologically advanced 959. Ferrari noticed the headlines and awards the 959 received, and began to believe that its broken group-B car could do the same. "This is a great car, we have to do it," said Ferrari test driver Marco Toni from the Evoluzione. That was all that Enzo had to hear. He commissioned Nicola Materazzi, father of the 288 GTO and his Evoluzione counterpart, to build the street car. It would be the last street car that Enzo Ferrari personally approved.

The F40 debuted in 1987 and amazed the testers with its outstanding performance. A road & track test in October 1991 showed that the 478 hp F40 accelerated from a standing start to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and covered the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 316 km/h.

This fine model of the Ferrari F40 in scale 1:18 was handmade and completed in our workshops in cooperation and with the support of Ferrari with regard to original surfaces, materials, archive images and drawings. The use of extremely precise digital scanning of the original car enables us to perfectly reproduce every detail in the scale. In addition, it was subjected to a detailed test by the engineering and design teams of Ferrari to ensure a complete accuracy of the presentation. Each amalgam model in 1:18 scale is supplied in a luxurious black box with a protective outer bearing envelope. Each model is mounted on a polished black acrylic base, which is protected by transparent acrylic dust cover. The basis contains a brochure with the certificate of authenticity as well as information and accompanying material to the car. The model title and the original branding are displayed on a polished stainless steel plaque, which is attached to the front end of the base.
