Description
CMC Modelcars Ferrari 250 LM, Winner Reims 12h 1964, #7, Chassis 5895, Hill/Bonnier – 1:18 Model
The CMC Modelcars Ferrari 250 LM as the winning vehicle of the legendary 12 Hours of Reims 1964 is an outstanding 1:18 model car that combines precision, historic significance and first-class workmanship in a unique way. The model was produced in the usual high-quality CMC quality and reflects the original as well as possible – a true collector's model for all who appreciate automotive history in exclusive miniature form.
As a Limited Edition and true masterpiece of the modelling craft, this Ferrari 250 LM sets new standards in attention to detail and authenticity. The original – the Ferrari 250 LM #7, winner of the 12h of Reims 1964 – is one of the most significant racing cars of its time.
The original car was newly delivered to Maranello Concessionaires, the then Ferrari representative in England. It contested its first race in 1964 at the Coppa Intereuropa in Monza with Roy Salvadori at the wheel. Later, Jackie Stewart, Lucien Bianchi and Innes Ireland also piloted this vehicle. In September 1965 the car passed to Peter Clarke, who continued to use it until 1968. David Piper also owned the vehicle for a short time.
The 12-hour race of Reims 1964 was special – the start took place at midnight. Without lights, with the classic Le Mans start procedure, Graham Hill, John Surtees and Ford driver Richie Ginther fought a spectacular three-way battle for over an hour at average speeds of over 200 km/h. In the morning, Surtees led narrowly ahead of Joakim Bonnier, while competing vehicles such as the GT40 and Shelby Daytona had already retired. Pit stops and different strategies ensured constant changes of the lead.
Shortly before the end of the race, Surtees lost decisive time through a necessary brake-pad change and later a sudden tyre failure. When he returned to the track, he was 1.5 laps behind the Hill/Bonnier Ferrari – which finally won the race.
