In 1966, Ferrari launched the 275 GTB/C on a completely new chassis that Mauro Foghieri had developed for a racing and street vehicle. The chassis of the car named as Tipo 590a was lighter and stronger than the standard. A total of twelve 275 GTB/C Scaglietti Berlinetta Competizione were built by the Ferrari racing department in Maranello with the relatively lavish body, which was typical of Pininfarina.
In order to create the necessary space for the racing tires, the wheel arches are exhibited, so that the body of the GTB/C is wider than with a normal series GTB, especially in the back where the fenders are wider behind the doors. The body is also covered with a 0.028 inch (0.7112 mm) thick aluminum skin, which is only half as thick as with a GTB with a normal body.
Eight of the twelve overall built GTB/C have left steering and two of them, the vehicles with the chassis numbers 9067 and 9085, are equipped with alloy rims and pirelli tires like our M-211. For the first time, Ferrari had used a coniferous transaxle transmission (blocked gears with the rear axle). Instead of a refrigerated blower, the natural air intake in connection with a water and an oil cooler ensures the necessary cooling capacity, even under long-distance racing conditions.
A dry sump lubrication makes it possible to position the engine deeper and further at the front in order to improve the weight distribution. A Tipo 213 Competition V-12 engine with 3,286 cc displacement and 3 Weber 40 DF13 carburettor ensures 280 hp at 7,700 rpm. Many engine parts are cast for weight reduction made of electron, a magnesium alloy.
The interior of the 275 GTB/C is provided with struts in the rear area that prevent the body from bending through the body. With an impressive racing record for decades, the 275 GTB/C, as one of the last real racing and road sports cars from Ferrari, will remain an estimated memory. For many Ferraristi, the 275 GTB/C is in no way inferior to the GTO, which is known to become a coveted value.
In 1966 Ferrari launched a new competition version of the 275 GTB and described this series as 275 GTB/C.
